Under The Radar is an a cappella quartet, featuring Jim and Jan Simpson on lead and tenor, Del Masson singing baritone, and Chuck Strub on bass. They love sharing the fun of music with audiences of all ages and actively promoting a cappella singing among youth, raising money for the Harmony Explosion youth a cappella camp held at Pacific Lutheran University every July.
Our Mission: The money we raise by performing is donated towards scholarships for Harmony Explosion NW, a youth singing camp at which all four of our members volunteer every summer. Every July, the camp brings together several hundred young singers aged 13-25 at Pacific Lutheran University for three days of friendship, vocal training from experienced clinicians, and a cappella music, culminating in a live concert. We proudly serve these young singers year round raising funds & awareness for the camp, in the hopes that it will inspire more young people to make singing & music a part of their whole lives.
Their repertoire is drawn from Beatles to Beach Boys to doo-wop groups such as The Five Satins and The Temptations, combined with material from the American Songbook. The result is a mix of melodies people know and love, enabling them to spread a little joy through music, and bring back the memory of days gone by.
They also perform an extensive Christmas song list for the Holiday Season! They sing for birthdays, weddings, dinner groups and other private parties, winery tours, coffee house gatherings, local fairs and variety shows, assisted living and nursing facilities.
Throughout the school year, they give presentations in schools to promote a cappella singing and the Harmony Explosion camp. We’re proud that in the eight years we’ve been raising money for the camp scholarship fund, no student has been turned away for lack of funds.
