The Far Shore four would love to entertain your group with good old fashioned barbershop harmony, featuring the wonderful hits of yesterday, such as sung by the Mills Brothers, Patti Page, and others of the golden era of vaudeville and radio. We have a wide-ranging repertoire of songs from the 20's, through the 40's, with ballads and up-tunes, novelties numbers, and a gospel song or two. We also can perform appropriate Holiday songs when requested. The quartet has been the regional Senior champion, and all together have over 100 years of experience in singing barbershop harmony. Two of the quartet members have been International Senior Quartet champions, one is a former chorus director, and all currently are members of the Northwest favorite NW Sound Men's Barbershop Chorus. The lead, Paul Renhard, lives in Seattle and retired after many years with REI. He has sung in other quartets and with the Seattle Seachordsmen, and sings now with the Bellevue Northwest Sound chorus, where he is a past chapter president. The baritone, Brian Ayers, a retired Monroe high school teacher, has served as a front line director, and section leader, currently is the NW Sound's Music Librarian and Assistant Director. Brian has also been a long-time quartet member of several quartets, such as the Evergreen Express. The tenor and bass, Dick Merritt and Chuck Benson respectively, are both major contributors to the Evergreen District. They are members of The Close Harmony Tradition quartet that won the International Senior Championship in 1987. Additionally, they are both members of the Evergreen Districts Hall of Fame. Dick, a retired engineer for Boeing who lives in Bellevue, was also Chairman of the International convention that was held in Seattle in 1983. Chuck, who resides in Seattle, when not singing can also be found volunteering at the Seattle Art Museum. All four of these men have earned the Bachelor of Barbershop Harmony award for their involvement in barbershopping for a collective 150+ years in the Society. In 2008, the quartet was crowned as Division II Senior Quartet Champions.
